Buried Treasures of Greenville

Inspiration comes from the most unlikely places.

Yes, a piece of cake. Well, not just any cake but a piece of Brickstreet Café’s sweet potato cake. I worked at a bakery this summer and watched in awe as the owner sculpted dimensional cakes, covered cakes in perfectly smooth fondant and frosted wedding cakes without a single imperfection. Lesson learned: good baking requires utmost perfection.

Brickstreet’s cakes are an exception to the world of baking that’s defined by level cakes and perfectly smooth frosting. Their cakes are often lopsided and lack decorations that are common at most bakeries, yet they are undeniably good and what I consider a true treasure.

This slice of cake led me to find other treasures that put a unique spin on common aspects of life such as fashion, fitness, and food. After all, originality and creativity make life a whole lot more fun! Enjoy this slideshow and take a peek at some of Greenville’s buried treasures.
